A friend of mine in Bangladesh is associated with an Art Institute and is sending me the watercolor painting (on the left) by one of his students. I don’t even have to pay for shipping as he is generous enough to ship it all the way from Bangladesh to Singapore.
The sad part is that this student (who apparently is quite talented judging by the painting though I’m not an expert) is now in Dubai working as a laborer painting walls to make ends meet. This is obviously a waste of talent. There must be thousands of such artists, if not millions. But what can the poor artists do? Is there any way that we can help them? I have told my friend that I can help set up a website for them for free (this is what I do best) to promote their paintings. This could be one of the ways to help the budding artists. I also told him that I can try and find out for him how I can help in getting the works exhibited in Singapore? He kept silent and changed the topic as he obviously doesn’t want to burden me with this task. However, I think this could be a viable business opportunity that also does social good and makes a positive impact. I have no experience in the art world but I’m just going by my gut feeling. What say you?
