Goals for 2007

I have not been the one to set goals as usually I take things one day at a time. There are many reasons why I did not set goals seriously, mainly, because it’d make me look like a failure if it didn’t achieve them. However, now I do think goal-setting is powerful and without trying to be overly ambitious, here’s my list of goals for 2007.
- Health: Exercise more often and learn to swim. J’s GF L has promised to teach me swimming so I should take her up on her offer. Work on posture, sleeping habits, mental fitness (yes, a Sudoko a day keeps the doc away) and allergies. Learn more about health, continue reading/listening to Andrew Weil as his philosophies on holistic health makes much sense.
- Productivity: Be more productive and achieve more in less time. Read and practice David Allen’s Getting Things Done methodology. Manage all my professional and personal projects using ActiveCollab. The incentive here is to be able to take more time off work much like the 1st and 3rd Fridays that I take off.
- Contribution: Make a difference using my strengths and skills. I had a blast recently helping build charity websites for AWARE (no, I didn’t do this website) for their event Women’s Outdoor Challenge as well as H.A.N.D.S Kalimpong (a charity fighting AIDS and drugs in my hometown) and interacting with the good folks behind these initiatives like Anuj Pradhan, Corinna Lim, Janice Mukhia, Wing Commander (retired) Prafulla Rao among others. Maybe I should do something to make a difference along these lines (Note to self: Think and blog about this in detail)
- Business and Technical Skills: Improve my technical and business skills. The number one priority is to learn Ruby and Ruby On Rails. CakePHP also looks worthy of a look. Get right into Web 2.0 and keep up technically. Read, learn, use and improve skills of CMS, Usability, Search Engine Marketing, Information Architecture, Web Design and Development while keeping in touch with entrepreneuria/business/management trends and happenings.
- Personal Stuff: Have more fun, relax, spend more time and energy with family and friends, have a new sense of style, attend more Arts events, learn to drive, practice guitar, spend more time in nature, read more books, manage time, be more punctual, under-promise & over-deliver, travel (maybe visit Dhiraj in Australia and make it for the Frisco get-together this year), start the online ventures that I have been mulling about for a long time and complete the Toastmasters projects.
Note to self: Come up with a more detailed goals plan for the above.
Do you think the goals above are over ambitious?
