Reflections on life, tech and business

Reading between the lines (literally)

I found this funny personal ad while reading a totally unrelated forum post. It seems like it originally appeared in FunAndMusic.Biz.
Talk about reading between the lines. The humour is a bit crass but it made me laugh aloud, hope it does the same to you!

ChangeThis is giving away Bootstrapper’s Bible by Seth Godin for free (the offer is for a limited period of two weeks, go grab it while you can).
I have read this book and sadly didn’t use much of the ideas which are mostly practical and sound. This led me to ponder, whether Singaporeans and PRs [...]

A quick quick web design/development tip. Brainstorm provided by a colleague.
It is always true that one should test the site in Firefox before tweaking it for Internet Explorer (IE). From experience and the short chat with my colleague, I can confirm that I have noticed that Firefox adheres more to standards and is [...]

We in Singapore are fortunate because we have such a wonderful library system – National Library Board (NLB). I could wax lyrical about the library until the cows come home but let me blog about their Digital Library and how it can be improved.
I checked around with my friends but not many seem to [...]

D-List Blogger

I did a hilarious test on Kineda.Com and I must say my ego was badly bruised. I am a D-List Blogger, i.e. the scum of blogosphere. Grrrr! And to add insult to injury, they present me with a badge that’s in PINK!
Link to me please. Check back next year and we’ll see whether I [...]

A friend of mine in Bangladesh is associated with an Art Institute and is sending me the watercolor painting (on the left) by one of his students. I don’t even have to pay for shipping as he is generous enough to ship it all the way from Bangladesh to Singapore.

FastCompany – November 2006 Summary

For the benefit of my own crammed brain, I thought that I’ll start summarizing FastCompany (my favourite business magazine) from the November 2006 issue.

TED Talks – Post 1

I have been meaning to blog about the TED talks but somehow I never get around to putting ‘fingers on keyboard’. I’m a glutton for learning and in fact, I strongly believe it is one of my strengths. A belief supported by the wonderful book “Discover Your Strengths” but I digress.
Back to TED.

World Usability Day

Today is World Usability Day.

Usability.Gov is one of the good resources for design and usability of websites. A large chunk of my work deals with the Government especially in the legal industry and I do understand that they have hard time making their websites and web applications usable due to so many unrelated factors like politics and bureaucracy. However, [...]

Not so recently, Pluto was demoted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) amidst controversy. Members of the public plus academics opposed the decision.
I also felt emotional and saddened by the demotion of Pluto. It may not make a lot of sense to many people but I always like standing up for the ‘underdog’ and [...]
