I specialize in using WordPress or Joomla for the final website but the process of development and design roughly follows the steps below:
- Collect Information: This stage involves collecting information to establish the purpose of the site, the target audience and the design objectives including color schemes, fonts, logos and images that are required as part of the existing branding. Technical details such as domain names and hosting are also collected during this stage. Recommendations, if necessary, are made.
- Define Site Objectives: The next stage is to clearly define the website objectives. The objectives could be to increase sales, engage customers, build relationships, showcase products and services etc…
- Sitemapping: After the objectives are clearly defined, the next stages is to to create a site map which will be a visual representation of the pages or sections of the website. I use tools like FreeMind to create a sitemap.
- Design Mockup: Based on the information from the first 3 stages, design mockups are created and shown to the client. Based on client feedback, a chosen design mockup is refined and finalized. Close attention is paid to usability at this stage.
- Theme or Template Coding: A WordPress theme or a Joomla template is created and the site is hosted on my development server. The client tests and provides feedback. The theme or template is tweaked and finalized.
- Live Installation & Training: WordPress or Joomla is installed on the client’s server along with the theme or template. Final testing and acceptance takes place. Client is provided with a comprehensive customized manual on how to manage the website without any technical knowledge via WordPress or Joomla.
- Online Marketing Primer: A website without any visitors is a white elephant so I provide my clients with an online marketing primer on how to generate traffic via search engines and social media. This constantly updated document contains step-by-step easy to follow online marketing plan.
- 3 Months Free Warranty: I provide three months free warranty to fix any technical issues that may crop up in regards to my theme or template but does not include new feature/design requests.
- Website Maintenance (optional): I offer quarterly, semi-annual or yearly technical maintenance of the website. This is optional.
