Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012

The year 2011 has not been a year where I seized the day but this is not a post to look back and complain. This post is about some highlights of 2011 and share my plans for 2012.

Hits & Misses of 2011

  • Getting baptized was one of the best decisions of 2011. My baptism name is Gabriel and soon in the future I want to officially change my name.
  • I am thankful to God that me and my family were kept safe and healthy. I have a fabulous wife (I don’t show my appreciation as much as I should), she perfectly fits the bill of the wife mentioned in Proverbs 31. My baby Lea is growing so fast and I am in awe everyday on how creative, joyous and beautiful she grows every single day.
  • I took on too many things in 2011 and didn’t do any of the things to the best of my ability. I was NOT focused and this caused a lot of dissatisfaction within me. This is a major grouse I have but on hindsight the many activities I undertook provided valuable life lessons.

Moving forward to 2012

I can’t believe how fast the year flew by. The new year holds new promises and I have made a few plans that I want to make public so I can be held more accountable.

  • I want to grow in the Word and in my spiritual walk witht he LORD.
  • I am stopping all WordPress and website consulting. I have completed my current obligations and not taking on any more clients. This will allow me to focus on the five things I want to do well in 2012.
    1. Grow SingaporePartTimeJobs.Com as a serious business: This is a business that has shown potential but in 2011 I largely ignored it letting it run on auto-pilot. There was virtually no communications with existing customers and non-existent customer service. Stupid me, I know. But that will change as the site is getting a revamp and I intend to provide stellar customer service (thanks to the amazing book I read by Tony Hseih of Zappos) to my clients. Currently, the site has about 10K users and my goal is to increase this number to 100K and get the site into the Alexa top 500 for Singapore (current rank is 1898). There is a social giving aspect to the site as well but I am refining that angle (this is due to another remarkable book I am reading by Blake Mycoskie). Scary goals but it’ll spur me on and yes I read quite a few books.
    2. Read 52 books in a year: This was inspired by an old blog post of Julien Smith and I’ll be summarizing the books in mindmaps at bookMapped (I have imported my old three summaries there) every week.
    3. Serve: I have been happiest when I have been volunteering and serving. Starting February 2012, I’ll be serving in my church.
    4. Health: I want to simplify my health goals and work out at least 2/3 times a week. Healthy diet in moderation and essential supplements.
    5. Constantly learn

That’s all.
